Quick-read tactics for End Time 5-man – Sylvanas, Tyrande, Baine, Jaina and Murozond – with no-effort auto-copy-paste tactics for party chat

This is the End, my only friend – or, as the case may be, my bunch of four people I’ve never seen before this LFD run. But don’t worry, this End Time doesn’t have Jim Morrison shouting about incest – just Sylvanas, Jaina, Baine and Tyrande Gone Bad, plus your friendly neighbourhood anagram Murozond, all ready to give out some phat lewts for your 5-man dungeon run in Patch 4.3. And we’ve got the quick-read strategies for each one ready for you – no massive walls-o-text here, just what you need to know.

If there’s someone else in your group who isn’t certain about the tactics either, click in the text box below each boss to auto-select a single line of tactics, checked so it’ll fit into party chat. CTRL+C or Cmd+C on a Mac to copy it, go back into WoW, start Party Chat, and CTRL+V or Cmd+V to paste all the tactics your group needs!

Ruby Dragonshrine – Sylvanas

Murozond

The final fight.

  • Assign one ranged to Hourglass. Use Hourglass when ppl’s health is low or ground is covered in AoE.
  • Don’t stand in front of or behind boss unless you’re tank. Tank point boss side-on from hourglass. Blow all damage CDs each time time resets.

Orcish Army Knife: Plot Calling Jaina

When I read Rade’s “What Blizz should have done with Jaina” over at Orcish Army Knife I thought he was going to dive into an analysis of Jaina’s nose. Or chin. Or how she’d look with half-moon spectacles. Go on, admit it, Jaina is a half-moon-spectacles-hair-in-a-bun kind of girl.

I was wrong. Rade isn’t examining how Blizzard should remodel Jaina’s pixels but her storyline, and he’s got a good point in that Jaina’s redundant going into Cataclysm.

Up to Icecrown’s release Jaina evolved into a useful mediator between factions. Personally I’ve always thought she was a poncy snit of a mediator who weeps on any orc, human or fallen princeling shoulder going and prances off to her tower until there’s another shoulder. But Rade’s right, Jaina needed progression after she had her five minutes of plot in the Icecrown five man dungeons.

Rade’s ideas about what Blizzard should do with Jaina are fitting.  They’d make space for the inevitable alliance-horde faction friction that Cataclysm will bring. Rade’s Jaina plot would allow the friction to feel natural [pullquote]Jaina from the picture would tie up many loose ends that currently exist[/pullquote] without a weepy wetnurse sniffily asking the boys to “please not stick swords in each other and play with their dragons nicely together”.  Most of all, Rade’s ideas have a cathartic sense of finality for a character I’ve never been really sure on. Not that I’m suggesting I’d gladly help Jaina pack for a final trip to Icecrown. Or that I mightn’t resist the urge to nudge her off Icecrown’s spires before we got to the top.

Part of my quandary about where I stand with Jaina is that there aren’t many prominent female characters in WoW.  I can think of a whole host of male characters. I can think of a whole two female characters (three if you have an Equality To Dragons policy), one of whom is Jaina. So Rade’s Jaina proposals made me slightly uncomfortable. I might not really like Jaina but we already have too few female characters to loose one.

I also wonder if on a generalised level one might say that the ‘potential to fall’ has already been covered in the Lich King legend and Sylvanas’ storyline. Having both female characters tap into that trope isn’t a smart move when you’re trying to recreate the Bayeaux tapestry in an MMO story. Perhaps Blizzard are aware of that.

Rade’s right. Jaina needs a facelift before Cataclysm, and although I might be oohing and ahhing a bit about it, his idea makes sense.

What do you think – has Rade hit the nail on the head? Or should Jaina go off jungling in SI:7, are half-orc Jaina and Thrall sprogs actually what WoW needs, or something else entirely?
