Conflict in the real world has reached into our MMOs this week, with EVE diplomat and real life US State Department official Vile Rat, aka Sean Smith, killed yesterday in the violence in Benghazi, Libya. Plus, the rest of the day’s most interesting posts:
- The Mittani delivers a moving tribute to Vile Rat, whom he played alongside in the Goonswarm for six years – “It seems kind of trivial to praise a husband, father, and overall badass for his skills in an internet spaceship game but that’s how most of us know him, so there you go. “
- The Ancient Gaming Noob comments on his loss as well – “He was just a voice on Mumble to me, one I recognized, but not somebody I knew personally. He was another player in our virtual world. People on voice coms, where I went as soon as the news came out, were shocked by the news. He was roundly remembered as a good person in game.”
- Erinys looks back over the things she’s loved in WoW as the expansion draws close – “You never forget your first, whether that was your first kiss, first shot of horseradish vodka, first lover or first ever WoW dungeon”
