If it’s this busy at the moment, what’s it going to be like when the MMOGalypse hits later this /next month?
Regardless, I’m enjoying it – and I hope you are too! Here are the rest of today’s thought-provoking posts:
- Keen and Graev ask if John Carmack-supported virtual reality headsets could be the future for MMOs – ” Imagine playing as an Asura in GW2 with the ability to be in first person looking around the world from that perspective. Instead of just using the mouse and keyboard to accomplish it you would actually move your head and look around. Looking up at a tall mountain, performing a jump puzzle, or even trying to see past the zergs in WvW would be entirely different.”
- Lodur revisits a well-worn but still interesting topic, and makes some really interesting points – will we ever get a “raid DPS dummy” equivalent for healers? – “So here’s my proposal, lets have something, an event, that you can go into that gives you NPC party members to heal and a faux boss fight. Through this, players could individually test their mettle, get logs and see if they were having issues without having to risk embarrassment or ridicule. “
- Stubborn responds with great style to a commenter asking “Do you hate WoW?” – “I am critical of WoW. I dislike many of the ways in which it’s changed. I feel a lot of decisions have unforeseen consequences that have just come to be accepted as part of a whole package, as if we can’t design a better system. “
- And Flosch takes a look at RIFT’s new WoW-style Annual Pass – is it worth it for either Trion or the players? – “I wonder how this offer will play out for Trion. I heard a lot of people who admitted that, in the end, they lost the Blizzard Annual Pass gamble. Of course, the situation here is a bit different, in that you get something for the game you play already anyway.”
