Many of us have been playing WoW for a while, right? And at this point, we figure we know pretty much everything about the game. The in-jokes, the hidden locations, the inspirations?
Boy, are we wrong.
This weekend has seen three posts pop up in the blogosphere all focussing on hidden aspects of WoW – and I reckon at least one of them will blow your mind:
- Perculia at Flavor Text Lore writes a stunning expose of the major influence behind Cataclysm item naming – the works of poets John Keats and T.S. Elliot – “there’s four full poems by Keats, select parts from “The Waste Land,” and fragments by other famous poets. I’ve copied all the relevant poems I found here with links to the gear.”
- Syrco Owl went exploring on Darkmoon Island, and discovered some really cool – and obscure – bits of story – “I remember back in Burning Crusade when I heard of some NPCs only being visible when you’re dead, so I tried that so many times but found nothing, I never thought they’d add something like that again but I love that they did. “
- And Navi at The Daily Frostwolf has compiled a list of cartoon and comic references in WoW – quite a few of which took me by surprise – Warning, spoilers for Pixar movie UP within!
Anything about WoW that still takes you by surprise?
