Being a new World of Warcraft player is hard. There’s a lot to remember, and a lot of new information to take on board. If you’re struggling with a new class or a new role, if people are shouting at you or being mean to you and you don’t know why, or if you simply want to stop making common, easily-avoidable mistakes, have a look at our guides, below.
Alternatively, if you have a player in your party who could use a few tips or is clearly doing something very wrong – the classic “Hunter in melee wearing cloth”, for example – point them to this page. That way you’ll get some friendly help for them, and some increased DPS, less inappropriate “need” rolls or more CC for you!

There’s a lot of noise out there, and very little information targetted specifically at new people, so you can really help out by spreading the word of these guides.

Experience is one of the most difficult things to teach new players. You’re doing a great job in this post introducing core concepts that new players need a firm grasp on in order to become better players.
Well done.
I played an Elemental Shaman back in the day, in my opinion it was the easiest dps class to play. The rotation was really simple and the optimum spec was obvious. However, that was back before cataclysm… I haven’t played in a while but I do miss the good ole’ days.
Saving this and several other of the “starter” pages. You have no idea how frustrating it has been with the new rework of the front end of the game.
There is so much we as “vanilla” or long time players have had to learn and adapt too over the years that it can be hard trying to convey the most very basic points to new WoW players and even more so to players new to this type of game in general.
(And yes they are out there)
I’m literally making much of this information mandatory reading for my room mate before he attempts to run the new content dungeons, go for glyphs and think about raiding.
Girls who game have to have standards too!
Cool! Glad these are useful – they were an idea that hit Johnnie and me like a bolt of lightning last year, but it has proven difficult to get the word out about them.
Hope your roomie has good luck in MoP! Worth noting – some of the technical details in these guides is still Cataclsym-era – check the Quick Start Guides too!
Hey! I just want to give an enormous thumbs up for the good data
you could have here on this post. I shall be coming back to your weblog for more soon.
I just wanted to say thanks for all the great info. As Jennifer said above, I am new to gaming and still don’t really have a clue. I was into old school stuff (I remember watching my son play DOOM) and held out for 5 years before I let my son talk me into playing WOW. I am having a blast, no pun intended, and have started raiding. The info provided will help me do better. THANKS!
Cool! Glad it’s useful.
I’m very glad it’s useful! Thanks!
