Silithus has long been renowned as being in the middle of nowhere, which actually makes it a good questing zone for level 55-60 characters who don’t want to be disturbed. It’s also a zone with a lot of PvP combat quests, some of which can be a bit confusing. So, continuing our series of confusing quests in WoW, Scouring The Desert is one which needs a little bit of explanation.
You talkin’ to me? Well I’m the only one here.
Silithus was an attempt to create a zone in which PvP combat was encouraged, rather like Wintergrasp and Tol Barad. It’s all but deserted on most servers now, but is still a good questing hub.
The Scouring The Desert quest requires you to gather some Silithyst and bring it back to your faction’s camp. It’s a very easy quest: the original complication came from the fact that enemy players would active try to stop you doing so, but usually you can complete this quest uninterrupted.
The first thing to do is to pick up the quest. Horde characters will need to talk to General Kirika, while Alliance characters should talk to Marshal Bluewall. Once you have the quest, it’s time to head out and find some Silithyst.
Silithyst is not a creature, but a substance. You can easy acquire some by looting the Silithyst Geysers which appear all over Silithus. When you loot a Geyser, two things happen:
- You’ll pick up some Silithyst.
- You’ll become flagged for PvP combat if you’re not already.
- You’ll gain a debuff which slows your movement speed.
Now you need to head back to your faction’s camp, and deposit the Silithyst in the Silithyst Extractor. The important thing to note is that you’ll need to make your way on foot – mounting will dispel the debuff and cause you to drop the Silithyst (if you do this accidentally, you can pick up the Silithyst again by looting the pile of dust on the ground). It should take you two or three minutes to make your way back, depending on exactly where you found your Geyser.
